Birch tree water, a Divine nectar.

I must say it, this year has been fuller of great discoveries than all my other years put together. I consider myself lucky for smallest of things I come to know and share. But birch water, I believe, has nothing to do with the word " small" and I hope after reading this post you will agree with me !

Birch water it is.
In the past I wrote about birch but used in gemmotherapy. It was and is one of my loyal friends on the path for the last few good years.

Since late last year my doctor (and good friend ) was telling me to wait for the spring and she will give me birch sap / birch juice. I was in the dark all this time and wasn't somehow interested in finding out what it really looks like or its benefits. So spring came and birch sap was given to a not knowledgeable me.

Now let me explain how sap comes to life. Its basically tapped from birch trees in spring. A small hole is done in the tree and then its fantastic nectar collected. But, so I hear, the tree must be respected and not more that 1 l collected from one tree at a time. Sadly I read this is not really the norm and trees are being dried up to 5 l at a time.
Sad.

Fresh birch water is sweet, thin syrupy watery liquid; what I received was a bit sour as it had some time since its collection but not to worry  it keeps well for 6 months in the fridge and can be used.

Birch tree, also named the tree of life originates in Siberia but grows also in hills and plain areas. Birch water/ birch sap/ birch juice is one of the best things you can drink.

The birch water has restorative and detoxifying properties. The traditional virtues of birch and its efficient removal of toxic substances from the liver and kidneys have been known and appreciated for ages. There are very few phytotherapeutic ingredients that are capable of targeting the body's two major cleansing and purification systems at the same time. And birch water is one of those few.

Birch juice has natural carbohydrates, organic acids, fruit acids, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, zinc, sodium, iron, copper, vitamins of B group, vitamin C etc.

What diseases can birch water cure?

"All  of them ! "  was the answer of Napoleon Bonaparte's doctor after the campaign in Russia where he had the opportunity to observe the benefits of birch water as it was being used by the Russian peasants.

I will list below some of the uses and benefits of birch sap :

  • neuroblastoma, neurosarcom. The betulinic acid ** is the main active ingredient in birch water and has a cytotoxic effect in malignant cells of the tumor formation of the nervous system. Treatment : 250 - 500 ml a day, 3-6 weeks.

  • nervous breakdown, impaired memory and concentration, fatigue. A cure of three weeks, half a liter a day, with extraordinary regenerative effects on the nervous system.

  • melanoma. Researchers at Medical University of Illinois concluded that some types of tumor cells triggers a process of self-destruction under the influence of birch sap. When taken internally it slows the growth of melanoma but also of other types of tumor cells. Sap treatment is 3 to 6 weeks as it may be purchased fresh. Drink 0.5 - 1 l a day.

  • cancerous disease in general - there are several studies that highlight the anti-tumor effects of birch sap and in particular of its bark.  (again betulinic acid ). There have been positive results in ovarian cancer, lung cancer and breast cancer. Treatment is 0,5 l to 1 l per day in adults or as a replacement of sap, birch bark decoction  ( 0,5 to 1 l in adults per day). This treatment can be followed in combination with other therapies, natural or allopathic as there is no incompatibility between the two.

  • rheumatism - birch sap can be administered less than one liter per day for three weeks to treat successfully joint pain.

  • kidney stones. Cures of 20 days, first day 0.5 l and slowly increasing, reaching 1 l on the 5th day, this quantity that will be drank for 10 days, after which the amount will be gradually decreased by 100 ml each day, reaching  0.5 l of sap again on the 20th day. This treatment is used by the French doctors to dissolve and eliminate kidney stones.

  • urinary tract infections. Birch contains active ingredients with a  strong diuretic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect thus making it a good remedy in treating and preventing urinary tract infections. Drink sap, one liter per day, 14-21 days.
  • eliminates cellulite
  • helps maintaining kidney and liver health, highly effective detoxifying agent.

  • eliminates toxins that only liver can process : alcohol, saturated fats, food coloring, additives, pesticides, remnants of industrially- processed foods, over-cooked fat and preservatives.

  • waste only kidneys can eliminate : excess salt, uric acid, phosphates, certain medicine, urea and ammonia.

  • excellent with liver ulcer, headaches, bronchitis, cough, radiculitis, rheumatism.
  • tonic action.

  • External -
  1. psoriasis - has  anti inflammatory effects. Compresses with birch sap are placed and held in place for an hour.
  2. allergic eczema ( compresses, applied twice a day, each for 30 m).

I am on my third week of drinking birch water and I am beyond happy with this discovery. I must note I am drinking it only in the mornings, on empty stomach ( always to be taken on an empty stomach and at room temperature ) and I am only taking 100 to 200 ml a day. This was what I was advised to have by my doctor as I am taking it for gentle detox and its regenerative effects.

Birch sap should be used with caution by pregnant women and during lactation and less than 200 ml a day. Birch is not suitable for children with allergies.
People that are allergic to aspirin should avoid taking birch.
Because of the effect it has on the kidneys, birch should not be used by those in renal crisis nor by people with decompensated heart disease.

Please take advice from your  (homeopathic*) doctor  before taking birch water.

** Wikipedia

Betulinic acid is a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpenoid which has antiretroviral, antimalarial, and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as a more recently discovered potential as an anticancer agent, by inhibition of topoisomerase.

Stinging nettle - Urtica Dioica, the herbal panacea

I know I've been away, life has a way with me...  it happens and gets me all busy and travelling. :D !!
But to my defense I've been thinking about what else I want to write here and I have so many things I want to share, I can't wait !
I have two "projects" regarding my health, one is a  water detox and the second is the homeopathic collagen & ubichinon injections for my skin ( my skin was badly affected by cortisone and I am trying to restore it's collagen levels ). I will be documenting both journeys and I'm hoping for interesting things to be learnt and experienced and of course... results !

But for today the topic on my mind is the stinging nettle. I used to love this plant but just cooked as a meal, it didn't even cross my mind to wonder about nettle as a whole plant and its healing properties.
Basically its been like a stranger to me and I didn't know much about its health benefits but now that I know I can't be silenced no more !

Few weeks back we had a holiday with my doctor and her family and whilst strolling in the forest we came across nettle and we decided to pick some for ourselves. I can't even begin to explain the stings I endured, better said, my fingers did and  for couple of days after, but it was well worth it and enjoyable...somehow ?!
Soo... we boiled them carefully and  I had one glass  every morning from the juice that resulted. And I must confess I was left impressed.

So this post is about this fantastic plant that deserves much more attention !

Nettle has been used for centuries to treat allergy symptoms, particularly hayfever as it contains biologically active compounds that reduce inflammation. Dr Andrew Wiel M.D. author, says he knows of nothing more effective than nettle for allergy relief.  In Europe is a common ingredient in many herbal drugs for rheumatic complaints and inflammatory conditions.

Stinging nettle is : an astringent, diuretic, tonic, pectoral, rubefacient, nutritive, anti-rheumatic, anti-allergenic, haemostatic, stimulant, decongestant, herpatic, febrifuge, anti-allergenic, kidney depurative/nephritic, expectorant, anti-spasmodic and anti-histaminic.

Nettle leaf is among the most valuable herbal remedies, because of its nutrients, its traditionally used as a spring tonic. It is a slow acting nutritive herb that gently cleanses the body of metabolic wastes.
Its one of the safest alternatives, especially in the treatment of chronic disorders that require long-term treatment.
Has a gentle, stimulating effect on the lymphatic system, enhancing the excretion of wastes through the kidneys.

Nettle is :

  • wonderful blood builder and purifier
  • excellent for anemia and fatigue, especially in women
  • promoting the process of protein transamination in the liver
  • beneficial during pregnancy due to rich mineral value and vitamin K
  • beneficial during labor to ease pains and to increase milk production in lactating women
  • recommended for premenstrual syndrome because of its toxin ridding activity. When liver is sluggish, it processes estrogen slowly, contributing to the high levels that cause or aggravate PMS.
  • restorative remedy during menopause
  • an astringent that helps with excessive menstrual flow
  • diuretic, increases the secretion and flow of urine. This makes it invaluable in cases of fluid retention and bladder infections.
  • anti-lithic and nepridic, breaks down stones in the kidneys and gravel in the bladder
  • similar to dandelion leaf, promoting the elimination of uric acid from joints with an alkalizing diuretic activity. In an open multi-clinical trial of 219 patients with arthritis, nettle leaf was compared to NSAID therapy, demonstrating a similar reduction in pan and immobility, with excellent tolerability.
  • a styptic ( an arrestor if local bleeding ) effective remedy for nose bleeds, applied locally or sniffed.
  • an astringent that proves useful in hemorrhoids, diarrhea, and bleeding in the urinary organs.
  • good for treating mouth and throat infections
  • useful to correct symptoms of gastrointestinal excess, such as gas, nausea and mucus colitis.
  • used as an anodyne to relieve pain of burns and scalds.
  • a helper to clear catarrhal congestion. The seeds are an excellent lung astringent, particularly useful for bronchitis and tuberculosis.
  • recommended remedy for goiter and to reduce body weight.
  • anthelmintic, expelling worms and other parasites.
  • fantastic as a rinse for the hair. This will regenerate hair growth and restore original hair color. Its widely used by the personal hair industry in anti-dandruff products and scalp conditioners. For example Clariol uses more than 40 tons of nettles a year as a hair conditioner.
  • recommended for : allergies ( hay fever, seasonal allergies, asthma, hives)
  • beneficial for neurological disorders - sciatica, neuralgia, MS
  • lowering blood sugar
  • beneficial for celiac disease
  • recommended for loss of muscular power
  • lessening nausea
  • helping with osteoarthritis

The leaf can be used as a diuretic, for arthritis, rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, high blood pressure and allergic rhinitis.
The root is recommended as a diuretic, for prostate problems and natural remedy to treat or prevent baldness.

An infusion of the plant is very valuable in stemming internal bleeding, arthritis, rheumatism and skin complaints.
Taken orally, products made from nettle's aerial parts may interfere with the body's production of prostaglandins and other inflammations-causing chemicals. Chemicals in nettle aerial parts are also thought to reduce the feeling of pain or interfere in the way that nerves end pain signals . All of these effects may reduce the pain and stiffness of arthritis and other similar conditions.
A solution made from the plant may be applied to the skin to relieve joint pain and muscles aches.

Drinking nettle leaf tea or juice is the best way to use nettles. To make tea, combine 2 teaspoons dried leaf with 1 cup hot water and allow it to stay for 10-15 minutes. Drink 3 cups three times a day. If in severe pain drink one cup every two hours until the symptoms are starting to lessen.

To apply topically put 2, 3 fresh leaves ( auch ! ) on small joints such as fingers or 4-6 to larger joints, two to three times a day. Remove them a minute or two after application, once multiple stings have occurred. Fresh leaves can be reused as long as they keep stinging and don't rot.

I have been so impressed with nettle's benefits and how good I felt after drinking the nettle juice that I packed some nettle tea in my kitchen and soon will start a two week nettle tea competition with myself.
Some of you may know that for my lupus nephritis stage IV of 2010 I had six dosages of chemo. Since then I have tried to detox my body as often as I could, my liver needs it and my body still needs it so I am doing it as often as I can. I am not a vegetarian ( yet?! ) so I still love meat and that  means uric acid and waste that needs to be flushed often.

Of course whatever I am taking as natural remedies are not only for chemo, cortisone & imuran detox but to supply my body ( and spirit ) with love and care made by Mother Nature. It's one of my ways to learn self love, step by step. Taking care of the body, taking care of the Soul.

Neem - the miracle herb

Neem has been used for thousand of years and has been widely documented in the ancient herbal healing science of India, Ayurveda. It is one of the most studied herbs of modern times, with hundreds of scientific papers been written about it. The result of both traditional review and modern scientific evidence is that Neem is truly a miracle herb.

Azadirachta indica, also known as Neem, Nimtree, and Indian Lilac, is a tree in the mahogany family Meliaceae, native to India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Neem is a fascinating and versatile plant and using neem has many benefits. Some of these benefits we are listing below.

Benefits :

  • anti-septic
  • anti-inflammatory
  • antiviral ( ex against measles )
  • antifungal
  • antibacterial
  • analgesic
  • anti-microbial
  • effective with gastrointestinal problems (ulcers)
  • supports the liver
  • effective with acne, psoriasis and eczema
  • effective topical fungal and viral conditions such as nail fungus, athlete's foot, warts, cold sores, chicken pox.
  • anti-histaminic, treats itching skin ( ex, bee stings and mosquito and spider bites.)
  • lightens scars and pigmentation
  • moisturises skin and keeps it supple
  • oil is high in Vitamin E, rich in emollients and fatty acids, soothing dry skin, cracked cuticles, damaged skin ( safe on children)
  • can decrease blood sugar level and prevents adrenaline as well as glucose-induced hyperglycaemia.
  • antibacterial action against Gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, including tuberculosis and streptomycin resistant strains. ( oil from leaves, seed and bark)
  • anti-cancer
  • antioxidant

From Neem is  used  - the seeds, leaves and flowers.(others parts also, but not mentioned here as not important in the context).

Seeds for neem oil, the most popular neem plant product, kernels can contain as much as 50% oil. Used in many skin care products, soaps shampoos, lotions, creams etc. Other benefits are written above.
Warning : seed oil can be toxic and should not be ingested.

Leaves are used for skin care products, hair oils, neem toothpastes and mouth washes. The leaves  cleanses the blood and supports the liver.
Flowers are lovely, sweet, honey like smell, neem honey is very popular. The flower oil is also used in aromatherapy and has calming and restorative effects.

Now, please let me add something to this post and maybe it's something should have been added some time ago : I have had the opportunity not only to experience a so-called chronic disease ( for me a so-called, others are free to name things and diseases as they choose) but also to live in a south Asian country for few good years and then few more in Middle East. This gave me the opportunity to engulf in this part of the world's culture and to have access to their alternative medicine. They were practically on the shelf, naturally, at the chemist and in people's mind and culture. Not something that I had to google, imagine, sweat and pray for. Of course, I am not and will not forget my homeopathic doctor that opened my eyes to a myriad of  possible remedies.
Neem was one of the remedies that was easily available under all possible ways, I used it firstly for my face and then as an oil for hair and then during my medical needs, internally.

It has helped in more than one way and I am thankful  that I knew back then it was a possibility and that I had the opportunity to use Neem. I hope it will help you too in your journey to health and enthusiasm !

Please note, once again, all  natural remedies or homeopathic medicine have been taken under a doctor's attentive care. Please consult a homeopathic doctor and please do not discontinue your medication as it can be dangerous. Neem can be taken in parallel with your medication and does not interfere with it.

Swedish bitters

I'd been drinking this as a tea today, I totally and completely and utterly think it's...bitter to say the least ! And I'm being kind.
This is not funny especially I am not a tea fan, I only drink if obliged. I know it has fantastic benefits but I am just not that into drinking tea...
The only two times I drank tea like serious, medical need mode was few years back as a detox, 2l a day of a special plant mixture and now, this swedish bitter tea, given  by my homeopathic doctor.
All in all, as I like to know as much as possible, always hungry for information and knowledge, I googled after reading the pack and hmm, I like what I found out so I dare say, let's remember all of us about swedish bitters and learn some more about it !

The Swedish bitters original formula is believed to go back to ancient Babylon and Egypt, but was first attributed to Paracelsus, a Swiss Renaissance physician, botanist, alchemist, astrologer and general occultist.
The recipe then circulated throughout the Middle Ages until the 18th Century, when Jonathan Samst a Swedish doctor blended the mixture of herbs that we now know as Swedish Bitters.
The recipe was subsequently abandoned until the 20th century, when the Austrian botanist Maria Treben reintroduced it.

Ingredients of Swedish bitters (  alcoholic / non-alcoholic):

  • angelica root ( the most important)
  • carline thistle root
  • camphor
  • manna
  • myrrh
  • rhubarb root
  • saffron
  • senna leaves
  • theriac venetian
  • zedoary root
Extended upto 22 ingredients :

  • archangelica, aloe barbadensis, lycopodiaceae, pimpinella, carlina acaulis, veronicae herba, althaea, gentian lutea, acorus calamus, cinnnamonm amphora, kandis, viscum album, commiphora, juglandaceae, rhei radix, carthamus tinctorius, sennae folium, ginkgo biloba, theriaca, potentilla erecta, artemisia absinthium, zedoariae rhizoma.
And if you managed not to get bored in the middle and skip altogether the names of the plants  let me congratulate you on your fine latin !  Ok! No need to feel regrets and go and read them again.  :D

So, bitter substances have almost been completely eliminated from the modern diet and this elimination has caused some disturbance with our bodies digestive system. Bitter substances have the ability to improve kidney and liver function, improve bile, reduce bloating and flatulence, improve metabolism and prevent acidification of the body.

This herb mixture has a wonderful healing power. Benefits :

  • promotes biliary, pancreatic and gastric secretion
  • disinfects intestinal tract
  • soothes digestive tract
  • relieves bloating, flatulence, gas, cramps and nausea
  • promotes appetite
  • restores natural acid balance in the stomach
  • stimulates liver function
  • gentle laxative
  • anti-anemic
  • treats rheumatic pains. Drops taken morning and evening and moistened cloth applied to the aching parts
  • general detox
  • helps in recovery after illnesses
  • helps in normal functioning of respiratory system
  • maintains normal concentration of cholesterol and fats in the blood
  • stops the early aging
  • reduces exhaustion
  • promotes vitality
  • tonifies and regenerates
  • when used externally alleviates inflammations of all kinds if applied on spots, wounds, cuts, bruises, scars and contusions

Caution : is very bitter, yes, if taste is unbearable, you can try and dilute in a warm infusion or with fruit juice, but ideally, it's best taken alone.
Side effects : keeping strictly to the recommended dose is unlikely to produce any side effects. Not recommended for pregnant women or children under 12 and in the case of ulcer. Do not use if you experience abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, or if you have developed diarrhoea.

Internal : dilution can be done with hot or cold tea, juice or water to avoid irritation of the stomach, one tablespoon per cup of tea or warm water. For optimum results you should drink it 30 minutes before meals. For well being drink one cup morning, one in the evening.
External : moisten a cotton ball and apply to designated area. Keep compression overnight if possible.

I'm going to list here the ingredients of my bitter swedish tea for anyone interested or curious : angelica, milk thistle, burdock, cardamom, caraway, thyme , coriander, clove, fennel, European ash, bay laurel, English marigold, stemless gentian, spiny cocklebur, lemongrass, juniper, marjoram, chamomile, rosemary, senna, Bethlehem, birdweed, european centaury, common nettle and ginger.

I'm wishing you now a nice evening or day wherever you are and a "let's get bitter"  !

Gemmotherapy: Blackcurrant the natural cortisone.

Recommended in the 18th century as an "Elixir of life", Blackcurrant  is one of the most widely applicable of the extracts known in gemmotherapy.
It is a very effective and potent tonic, it has been shown to have a salutary effect throughout the human body and acts like an "adaptogen", enhancing the effect of other plants with which it may be associated.
Ribes Nigrum belongs to the family of the Glossulariaceae and originates from Central and Eastern Europe plus parts of Asia.

The plant produces multiseeded black berries up to 1 cm in size, which ripen in July and August. In the 18th century, the abbot Bailly from Montaren, who was a professor at the University of Paris ( La Sorbonne ) described Ribes Nigrum as the "bush of a thousand virtues".

In the Second World War, the consumption of blackcurrants was recommended by the British government because of the high levels of vitamin C. Blackcurrant syrup was given out freely, especially to children, to make up for the lack of vitamin C from other fruit.

The primary effect is on the adrenal cortex, it has a cortisone-like effect because it directly stimulates the secretion of the adrenal cortex hormones; it is also a fast-acting anti-inflammatory substance, with no iatrogenic consequences.
Ribes nigrum mainly acts on the primary inflammatory phase of inflammation, but is effective in all stages of inflammation of the mucous membranes, such as in the airways, in the digestive tract and in the urinary tract. Ribes nigrum boosts the anti-inflammatory effects of the gemmotherapy agent Sequoia gigantea.

Some scientific research has been performed on the buds of RN at the faculty of Pharmacy at Lyon, where the anti-inflammatory properties of the buds were investigated. The buds significantly reduced the number of inflammatory cells in rats, which demonstrates the anti-inflammatory properties.
Another test perfomed in Lyon using the buds was the arthritis test. Administration of the buds normalized the elevated alpha-1-acid-glycoprotein and gamma globulin within 7 and 10 days respectively. Alpha-1-acid-glycoprotein is an acute-phase protein, the plasma concentrations of which rise significantly in the event of inflammation.

Some active ingredients in Blackcurrant :

  • enzymes
  • vitamin C ( 100 mg/g in fresh buds)
  • amino-acids
  • flavonoids
  • fibers
  • minerals
  • phenolic acids
  • anthocyanins
  • carotenoids etc

Blackcurrant is a true natural concentrate :

  • effective against allergies, migraines of allergic origin, urticaria, hay fever, eczema
  • effect comparable to cortisone
  • effective with diseases of the liver
  • bud macerate is an anti rheumatic and a powerful anti-inflammatory. Remedy of arthrosis, gout, ligaments and tendons pains, painful joints.
  • stimulant of suprarenal glands, kidneys, pancreas, liver
  • acts effectively at respiratory level in asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, allergic rhinitis
  • recommended to to tired people, lacking enthusiasm, combats drowsiness
  • remedy for prostrate, osteoporosis, gastritis, lack of appetite
  • recommended in hypo-tension
  • acts efficiently by internal way against the after effects of insect bite ( anaphylactic shock).Few drops applied to the bite will reduce the sensation of pain
  • chronic fatigue
  • has antioxidant properties, better than bilberries, raspberries, redcurrants and cranberries.
  • antiviral properties, active against herpes simplex. Active against type A and B influenza viruses as shown by a Japanese study.
  • reduces oxidative stress on exertion
  • stimulates lactation
  • improves visual acuity. Carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin are known antioxidants for the retina, the bioflavonoids and thocyanins and vitamin C protect the small blood vessels and increase the blood flow in the eye. Oral intake of RN improves the blood flow in the optic nerve head and the retina.
  • is a promising supplement to anti-glaucoma drugs
  • reduces muscle stiffness. Oral intake of RN at a dose of 7.7mg/kg can combat muscle stiffness.
  • good for general drainage therapy
  • helps in recovery following illness

Black currant should not be taken if you are on a prednisolone course !

Personally I have been using gemotherapy and specially blackcurrant for past 5 years with great success; it has brought me successfully off prednisolone and kept me at a bay from it. I dislike prednisolone and its horrible side effects and I do not wish to ever be in position to take it, for any issue whatsoever.
Blackcurrant has helped me find balance during my period of lupus and helped me keep balance after.
If you are not right now on prednisolone do discuss with a homeopathic doctor and your rheumy and proceed in taking blackcurrant even if you are in a remission. I believe in acting well in advance, detoxifying the body and keeping it healthy and in good balance.

You can take blackcurrant in any form you find fit and you homeopathic doctor approves, I have personally only used gemmotherapy as this was prescribed by my doctor.
You can go on courses of 3 months ( 50 drops in little water, 3 times a day, on empty stomach) or 4ml a day in combination with rosemary and/ or birch gemmotherapy. Right now, as I write this, I am on such a course for a duration of three months, in month number two.

Please do not interrupt your prednisolone unless otherwise medically indicated.

Natural Wonders - Boerhavia Difussa / Punarnava

Boerhavia difussa  or commonly known as Punarnava is a tropical crawling root plant, with bioactive compounds in both leaves and root and used in Ayurveda and other traditional medicines.

Boerhavia Difussa is a plant of enormous importance in the purview of its chemical and therapeutic properties and grows throughout India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Burma and many other tropical countries.

The word Punarnava  literally means "the re-newer" or the one which renews the body as BD tends to revitalize and renew the body systems.

Historically, BD has been used for its anti-diabetic and diuretic properties; in other parts of the world has also been used for pain relief, anti-inflammation and treating indigestion.
Almost all anti-obesity medications contain punarnava as one of its ingredients.

Few benefits of Punarnava:
  • diuretic
  • suppresses proliferation of immune cells ( harmful during flu season but beneficial if the immune system is hyperactive)
  • re-establishes brain power
  • anti-proliferation effect on some cancer cells
  • anti-oxidant properties
  • anti aging
  • disease prevention
  • life strengthening activities
  • chemical analysis gives a variety of chemical constituents, namely, rotenoids, flavonoids, xanthones, purine nucleoside, lignans and steroids.
  • role in disorders of reproductive system, gastrointestinal system, respiratory system, urinary system, cardiovascular system and cancer
  • immune modulation
  • hepatic protection
  • treats obesity
  • improves appetite
  • maintains effective kidneys function
  • blood purifier
  • beneficial in treating Asthma
  • treatment of Anemia, nervous weakness, paralysis
  • constipation
  • treats cough
  • the roots help in killing intestinal worms
  • heart tonic

Personally I have taken few times  Punarnava during the time when I was having problems with my kidneys - lupus nephritis stage IV. Punarnava was of course prescribed by my homeopathic doctor and I must say it had beautiful results with me. My kidney function improved after taking Punarnava,
Complement C4 and C3 improved and my total protein and albumin levels increased.

Punarnava it's a natural medicine I would gladly suggest from all my heart to anyone with kidney disease but please you should always discuss with your doctor before taking.

Punarnava is a laxative, dosage should be determined by a qualified medical professional. Children below 12 of age and pregnant women should not take Punarnava.

    SOD / Superoxide dismutase

For years, scientists have sought a way to boost one of the body's most powerful natural antioxidant enzymes : superoxide dismutase (SOD).

Present both inside and outside cell membranes, SOD is one of the body primary internal anti-oxidant defenses, and plays a critical role in reducing the oxidative stress implicated in artherosclerosis and other life-threatening diseases. Studies have shown that SOD can play a critical role in reducing internal inflammation and lessening pain associated with condition as arthritis or lupus.

When delicate SOD molecules are coupled with a protective protein from wheat and other plants, they can be delivered intact to the intestines and absorbed into the bloodstream, these powerful antioxidants go to work detoxifying potentially harmful substances and reducing oxidative stress that might otherwise contribute to aging and crippling diseases.

SOD oral supplements should only be taken if they are  enteric coated so it maximizes its absorption in the small intestine and is not destroyed in the stomach !

By strengthening the body's primary antioxidant systems, novel SOD-boosting supplements may offer the most powerful free radical protection available today.

SOD is an enzyme found in all living cells and taken orally or as a shot can :

    • remove wrinkles
    • rebuild tissue
    • extend length of life
    • treat pain / swelling ( caused by sports injuries, RA, Osteoarthritis, cancer & lung problems in new born)
    • improve tolerance to radiation therapy
    • improve rejection rates in kidney transplantation
    • minimize damage caused by heart attacks.
    • reduce DNA damages
    • reduce lactic acid build-up
    • promote longevity
    • bladder inflammations
    • cancer prevention

SOD makes every cell in your body more resilient and able to fight off attacks better from the outside. No other antioxidant - nor carotenoids, nor flavoinoids, nor Vitamins A, C and E nor CoQ10 and not even Glutathione Peroxidase even comes close to the power of SOD.

I have taken my fair share of SOD over the years prescribed by my doctor and with great results, nowadays I prefer to take green barley as it also has in it SOD, I don't know but I feel better knowing that is from a plant aka a natural source.

We don't know for sure if SOD taken from vegetables ( barley, broccoli, wheat grass, Brussels sprouts and cabbage)  is lost or not completely due to stomach acid but I am still an advocate of eating them.

Be advised that you should discuss before taking SOD  with your doctor and homeopathic practitioner and take their views.

    Gemmotherapy - the unknown gem

Gemmotherapy is a well-researched discipline in the academic world, but it is still relatively unknown among the general public in many countries. However, these remedies are proving to have such a wide range and potency of action that Gemmotherapy will undoubtedly develop by leaps and bounds in the coming years, as homeopathy has done over the past decades.

Dr. Pol Henry, a Belgian doctor, was the first to conduct comprehensive research on the therapeutic properties of buds. He started treating patients with bud extracts in the 1960's and published his research and clinical findings in 1970, calling this new therapy "Phyto- embryotherapie". This discipline was further elaborated on and developed by a French homeopath, Dr Max Tetau, and other Belgian and French doctors. Dr Tetau also changed the name to "Gemmotherapy", the name by which it is now universally known.
The name derives from the Latin "gemmae" meaning both bud of a plant and precious stone.

Buds and young shoots consist principally of embryonic tissue and enclose all the genetic information required for the development of the adult plant. In addition to containing vitamins, oligo-elements, and minerals, buds and young shoots are richer in nucleic acids and growth hormones than other plant tissues.

Given that they are extracts of embryonic tissue, the gemmotherapy remedies are found to posses all the properties of the various parts of the plant, in this way the gemmotherapy extract of Linden Tree will be sedative ( as are the flowers), but also purifying and diuretic ( properties associated with the sapwood, or underside of the bark of the tree.)

The two principal forms of gemmotherapy remedies are :

    • extracts of individual buds, each extract contains all the properties of one plant
    • complexes: combinations of individual bud extracts, as designed to target specific problems

    Examples and their use :

    • blackcurrant : allergies, natural cortisone, chronic bronchitis, mumps, chronic hepatitis, pancreatitis, optic nerve atrophy, ovarian cysts, uterine fibrosis, gout etc.
    • rosemary : digestive disorders, diabetes, atherosclerosis, normalizes blood pressure, prevents aging process, optimal cholesterol lowering, strengthens eyesight and memory, regulates nervous system. Used in joint pain, muscular and rheumatic and stiff neck.
    • birch : tonic in cases of fatigue and exhaustion, mineral deficiencies, growth disorders, osteoporosis, anorexia in adults and children, detoxifies.
    • .tamarisk: support for bladder and urinary tract, iron deficiencies
    • horsetail : consolidate the bone structure, to facilitate assimilation of calcium
    • bramble : to counter knee osteoarthritis and osteoporosis
    • giant redwood : to strenghten bones, to make tendons and ligaments flexible
    • grape vine : to slow articular deformation
    • virginia creeper : to relieve the small fingers joints, tendons and ligaments
    • artigem : to relieve pain and improve the flexibility of articulations
    • fig tree :to reduce the problems of stress and a good night rest
    • horse chestnut : to reduce skin problems in the face
    • elm : to resolve skin problems, to drain the body
    • hazel : to balance the nervous system
    • linden tree : to promote a good quality sleep
    • juniper : to help and relieve the liver

These are just few   examples of the many remedies that gemmotherapy has on offer.
I was prescribed many of these by my homeopath doctor over the past 6 years (  btw in my home country you can not become a homeopath if you are not first a doctor with a diploma) and  the results have been always fantastic.

A couple of times a year  I take a course of 2 to 3 months of rosemary, black currant and birch. These three detox my liver and kidneys and black currant is a natural cortisone.
Note that black currant should be taken only if you are off prednisolone.

Please be advised you should discuss with your homeopathic practitioner about what remedies are best suited for you.

    Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy ( CST) was developed and pioneered by osteopathic physician John. E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies fro 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

The touch used is a soft one, generally no grater that 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel; the practitioner releases restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and its effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including :

    • migraine headaches
    • chronic neck and back pain
    • motor coordination impairments
    • colic
    • autism
    • central nervous system disorders
    • orthopedic problems
    • traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
    • scoliosis
    • infantile disorders
    • learning disabilities
    • chronic fatigues
    • emotional difficulties
    • stress and tension-related problems
    • fibromyalgia and other connective-tissue disorders
    • temporomandibular joint syndrome ( TMJ)
    • neurovascular or immune disorders
    • post traumatic stress disorder
    • post-surgical dysfunction and so on.

Guys, I personally go to only one person/ therapist to get CST therapy. I know her for 6 years now, she has become a good friend also and I trust her abilities completely. What I am trying to say is that I don't give my trust to any therapist and I am advising  if you are interested in anything similar or CST  to pick wisely and take time to choose as not all therapists are good, not all are well seasoned  and not all are responsible of what they are doing.

I have had extremely positive results last few years with CST and I personally love it, I love it so much that I decided this summer to go and attend the courses and become a therapist myself. ( Don't ya worry I am not selling myself here lol, I am just learning it for myself and my family) .

Never, under any circumstance stop your medication if you've been to a CST session and if you are told by a practitioner to stop taking your medication, look at him/ her twice, smile and leave never to return. Drugs that you took for months or years can't and shouldn't be dropped in a blink of an eye. Weaning takes months or weeks at best and must be done in perfect safety for your body to be able to adjust.

This week I am going to my home country and on Saturday I am visiting my friend and will get a good 'ole CST session mixed with Healing touch; knowing she has golden hands and a wise heart makes me very relaxed and looking forward to Saturday. I almost always tend to fall asleep, so looking forward to my nap lol !

Recap : CST is wonderful, has results but choose wisely the practitioner and actually  you should choose wisely your homeopath and doctor ! Don't leave your body, health and well being in the hands of whomever, be responsible. Always.

    Arnica Montana - the Healer

Before delving into Arnica Montana lets quickly explain a bit about Homeopathy, what it is and how safe it is.

Homeopathy is a form of holistic medicine used by over 200 million people worldwide ( I'd guess more but we will do with this number) to treat both acute and chronic conditions. It is based on the principle of " like cures like" - in other words, a substance taken in small amounts will cure the same symptoms it causes if it was taken in large amounts.
Homeopathic medicines are manufactured using a process combining serial dilution and vigorous shaking. They are perfectly safe for babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women who are under the supervision of a medically - qualified practitioner.

Homeopathy is FDA approved since 1930.

Arnica Montana is one of the best known homeopathic remedies and it has been used for several studies to demonstrate the effect of the remedies on bruising and trauma. Some plastic surgeons swear by it for reducing bruising after cosmetic surgery ( mine also ! after both my reconstructive surgeries I was given by the nurse Arnica Montana 30Ch !)

Many people are "converted" to the homeopathic cause after seeing spectacular results with this humble herb.

What is Arnica Montana? Its an alpine plant, can potentially reach a height of 60 cm, grows in meadows up to 3000 m above sea level where its exposed to strong sunlight. Higher the altitude, the more aromatic the plant will become. It can be found throughout Europe.

You can find Arnica under the shape of : gel, cream and homeopathic pills.

    Arnica can be used for:

    • trauma remedy
    • bruising injuries
    • acute  trauma emergency
    • after surgeries
    • muscle recovery after exercising
    • insect bites
    • minor injuries
    • toothache
    • heal after natural childbirth / c section.
It's actions are far more widespread, as J. Tyler Kent ( 1849-1916), an US homeopathic physician says :     " its a wonderful remedy, a misunderstood remedy, a misused remedy because its limited to bruises."

Arnica is also used ( but not limited to) :
    • remedy for "bruised soul", its a remedy for someone who doesn't forget pains
    • ailment for anger and irritability
    • pain vividly recalled, like nightmares, post traumatic stress syndrome
Arnica has a fantastic ability to treat bruising but generally its ignored in the bigger remedy picture and emotional state. Homeopathic remedies aim to heal at a deeper level that the superficial expression of the body's imbalance.

If its sounds crazy to you then just stick to its healing properties as they are well documented.

I personally disagree with the people that refuse completely homeopathy and natural remedies, deeming them to be dangerous or better not even working.

I am the person that loves to bring arguments into conversations/ debates, and I like to ask anyone that has anything to say to bring valid arguments. So to say to me that these are dangerous you will need some valid arguments and studies to prove that . I presume you wouldn't consider tea dangerous, eh?  There is well documented information over the benefits of tea and drinking tea and you most surely enjoy tea when you are sick, down with cold or flu, or for dieting or health reasons and so on. We are clear then that plants are not dangerous, especially if handled correctly in safe dilutions as in the case of homeopathy. ( homeopathy doesnt use only plants.)

Homeopathy and natural remedies are NOT dangerous if taken wisely and under medical supervision.

Plants and homeopathy are mild compared to synthetic drugs and have little to no side effects if taken under supervision.  We cant say the same about synthetic substances, even taken under supervision. So please ponder with great discerning attention on the thought that homeopathy  can be dangerous !

There is  a time and a place for each of these to be used and I need to be clear, I am very much aware ( and indebted) just how life saving synthetic drugs are and can be and rest assured I am not belittling them.

I have known both worlds and homeopathy has won my heart through the help of my homeopath doctor; Arnica has helped me and my family and friends in  numerous occasions and we have always Arnica in our house. Few days back I bruised my leg, I immediately took Arnica and no bruising happened and healing started few seconds after the little accident.

My sister had a beer bottle explode in her hand few weeks back, many stitches, deep wound, she was very worried, told her about Arnica, she ordered it and she was so relieved, the wound started healing rapidly. As I said previously  I used this after  surgeries and on the first one, years back, I was still on Imuran and cortisone but I healed amazingly quickly and the surgeon was very pleased.

If you want to have Arnica Montana in the house you can and I can tell you that :

    - Arnica Montana 15C ( or CH)  is less powerful than Arnica Montana 30C. I have always used either 15 or 30, after surgery I took  C30 every 8 hours, 5 pills under the tongue and no eating and drinking before/ after for 10 m.
    - Arnica Montana 30Ch is to be used after surgeries, stiches, traumas, bigger bruising. For anything milder use Arnica 15C.
-For surgery or trauma, big bruising, use it as I was told, every 8 hours but for anything milder twice a day, 5 pills under the tongue.
    - After my surgery I was told to take it for 2 weeks, so did my sister, for anything else for few days to one week should be enough.
    - For children, half the dosage for adults &  please don't ever handle the homeopathic pills.

I dont know many homeopathic remedies by heart, but Arnica is definitely one of them ! I love this plant and the remedy.
Please be aware I am referring to Arnica as homeopathic remedy and not plant itself.

Pure Arnica herb is toxic if it gets inside the body in larger quantities. Never apply arnica gel/cream  on broken skin or on an open wound.

Never take arnica internally unless it's in the form of homeopathic pills.

Some people are sensitive to the compound helenalin found in arnica. If you develop a mild rash, then you are probably helenalin-sensitive and should stop using arnica.

Note : Homeopathic Arnica is a very diluted form of Arnica plant so it is safe. All homeopathy works on high dilutions.

    Ceylon Cinnamon / Real Cinnamon

There are two ways to cinnamon and it's very important that you learn to differentiate these :

    1.  Cassia Cinnamon which is the cheaper version & another plant ( Chinese cinnamon)
    2.  Ceylon Cinnamon or Real cinnamon ( Cinnamomum Verum ) native to Ceylon in Sri Lanka that possesses outstanding health benefits.

The extract that is sold in supermarkets comes from China, Vietnam or Indonesia and contains coumarin which is a natural compound of the cassia spice but when consumed in high dosages it can cause liver and kidney damage. This type of cinnamon should not be confused with the real cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon.

Unfortunately the cinnamon which is native to Sri Lanka and sourced from the plant Cinnamomum zeylanicum is rather unknown to most people. In the States and many parts of Asia what the majority consumes is not the real cinnamon but the Chinese cinnamon. Whilst the two share characteristics such as antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of fungus and yeast and regulating blood sugar, their contents differ in the amount of coumarin which is a naturally occurring substance with strong blood- thinning properties.
The coumarin level in Ceylon cinnamon is small while in Cassia cinnamon is 1200 times higher.

So don't be surprised that cassia cinnamon will  and  can interact with other drugs including aspirin, NSAID's ( ibuprofen, naproxen)  and anti coagulants such as warfarin. Do not use cassia cinnamon for daily consumption as it can lead to liver and kidney damage !

    .

Ceylon Cinnamon health benefits are below.

Lab studies have found that Ceylon cinnamon may reduce inflammation, has antioxidant effects and fights bacteria.

    • Anti-clotting: it may help stop blood from clotting, according to whfoods.com, cinnamon accomplishes this, " by inhibiting the release of an inflammatory fatty acid called arachidonic acid from platelet membranes and reducing the formation of an inflammatory messaging molecule.
    • natural anti inflammatory
    • blood sugar control : powerful antioxidant and may help to control blood sugar on many levels.
    • slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals.
    • improves insulin response in people with Type 2 Diabetes
    • as little as one gram a day has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol, in individuals with diabetes. According to whfood.com, cinnamon will reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
    • boosts brain function and visual motor speed, working memory
    • improves colon health and protection against heart disease
    • excellent source of fiber, calcium and minerals
    • calcium and fiber remove bile salts from the body, which helps to protect the colon and reduces the risks of colon cancer
    • relief from constipation and diarrhea
    • used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its warming properties, such as during cold or flu.

    1. I have not used it personally so I don't have any feedback to give  you guys. As always, please consult your doctor and homeopath before taking  Ceylon cinnamon.

    Blog rules. Please read !!!

Need to lay down some rules, at least my rules about how I write and what I write.

    • Homeopathic medicine ( yes it is called medicine !) is FDA approved since 1930 and strictly regulated.

    • You cant and shouldn't take homeopathic medicines without visiting a homeopathic doctor and taking advice from your doctor.

    • Natural remedies are not hocus pocus and not approved by FDA. They are regulated and approved by FDA. If they were not approved rest assured you wouldn't find them in pharmacies, in online shops and so on. After all I am not sending you to China to have a mix of leaves done specially for you...

    • As a general rule almost all homeopathic medicines can be taken in parallel with your normal medication. By no way I am suggesting you to STOP taking your medication. Be assured that they are keeping you alive at the moment so do NOT play games with your life.

    • Whatever you  consider taking you may want to discuss first with your doctor and /or a homeopathic doctor.

    • Homeopathic medication is individualized, meaning its only to be used by you and no one else and its not based on a general diagnostic. Even if you have a friend that has similar symptoms or illness, the dilution and medication may NOT be the same.

    • Whatever I have taken over the years, either homeopathic or natural remedies, were given to me under the strict surveillance of my doctor.

Please be advised that I am only trying to bring awareness. Your choices must be carefully considered.
I have not managed to be healthy ( or in remission ) based only on a specific raw vegan diet or only with natural remedies.
I am healthy because I have worked diligently to know myself, to become aware of who I am, my anxieties, my issues, my fears and allowing change to happen. And that change happened slowly over years.

    Remission or not

Yes I know, once diagnosed forever diagnosed. That's what medicine says about this disease they don't understand. ( at the moment ).
It used to really frustrate me  to talk to doctors and friends that are doctors and to find it's  unacceptable to them that I consider myself healed and a healthy individual. I had to go with the story of " I am in a remission".
Eventually I got to the point where I understood and recognized their point of view but mine also. And they were a bit different. They call me in remission. I call myself healthy. And we are all  happy.

I was thinking about a blog for few years, I wanted to share my story of the blessing that lupus has been for me and the respect I feel for the illness that I worked with for so many years.
You have been told to fight your illness. I choose to diligently and intelligently  work with the illness and discover myself and my potential. You have been told maybe that you "must" fight this terrible disease, I am telling you can " choose" to work to attain your health.

Can you see right there the freedom? No more struggle. The Bible points it well : "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
I think it means the Word carries value and the words carry strength so be aware of the words you think and the thoughts you repeat incessantly in your mind and in your speech.

I'm not saying anything fancy right here, I'm simply saying what psychology already explained, our thoughts are  a huge proportion of 99% repetitive and we tend to think a lot don't we? Now imagine you think you must fight, you are sick, you are not healthy, you are having a flare, you can't do anything, you have lupus, or any other disease for that matter. These thoughts will become part of your subconscious. And rule your life. There is no hocus pocus here, simply be aware of your " words" as what you speak and  think is making you either healthy or sick either fighting or choosing.

What I am saying is choose you own life because you can, choose the way you look at things and the way you perceive yourself. I know you can't really say to yourself I am healthy while you are having a lupus flare but you can say to yourself that you are working with mindfulness out of it and that this will be the last one.

Many other good things will come out of choosing wisely our thoughts and words, like noticing patterns of our thinking, what upsets and brings us joy, what triggers stress and anger  or fears and soon enough we will find out  we can...choose otherwise. As a friend said once to me : move, change your life, you are not a tree !

Don't worry too much, this can come easily or it can come hard, and it doesn't matter as long as you started walking the path. Before you know it you actually started knowing yourself and that, right there, its worth more than your weight in gold my friend.

So let me repeat that : I am healthy because I chose to work with my disease and understood what  in me triggers it and I have allowed the disease to be my teacher. I try to be a diligent student even today.

Next post will be about my sweet love for cats ;) : Cat's claw ( Uncaria Tomentosa).

    Some of my lupus perspective

Sitting on a chair in a doctor's office, crippled by pain,  after few stints in the hospital, two whole months on powerful antibiotics, I wanted an answer and to be rescued. Of course I was healthy before, nothing really hurt me, I was young anyways, just 24, vibrant I thought and looking forward to my life.
Sitting on that chair I suddenly realized maybe I didn't know much about life or who I really was.

And the doctor did help me - to start a new journey - as he said with a faint smile that I have lupus and that's a chronic disease, they don't have a cure but there are  treatments for the symptoms. .

My normal self was a very collected one, pessimistic, ( no, actually I liked to think I was an optimist but now I know I was a pretty negative person) cold, distant and not at all open or at ease with others  - I burst into tears like someone just pushed a button in my heart. Instantly. Forgetting the shame that I could be considered  weak. I cried even though I had no idea what lupus was but I think I cried of relief knowing WHAT it was, not being the crippled one for nothing, the no-name illness.
And because I was honestly scared.

After sitting on that chair my life continued through pain, steroids did help but not a huge deal, at least my best friend wasn't Ibuprofen anymore. And thank God I wasn't having a shower every two days when I was receiving my intramuscular pain killer from the nurse... I could walk now, raise my hands to tie my hair ( just about), eat without help, take care of  myself...  it was just that sometimes I needed a stick to walk and the nights continued to be awful but I could see a way out.
I thought I did. Actually I become determined to overcome this disease. And heal.

What I started doing I suggest to anyone having a disease to do. Don't listen to what others say to you, be your own "mini-doctor",  you need to know everything that you can possibly imagine on  your disease. I've learnt to understand the disease, the blood tests, the DNA tests, the changes in them, the changes in my body, the medication, the treatments, the possibilities and so on. I am suggesting you to become a walking dictionary. Take a virtual PhD in the disease you have.

I've learnt you cant receive a statement from your doctor regarding a change in your treatment or something that will be performed on you without you agreeing to that and knowing exactly what it is and what it implies on short and long term. I would suggest you not to consider the doctor as a  superior being that knows best and is not to be asked questions. You pay them and the story its about you

I paid my 6 months of chemotherapy and I had a doctor that was refusing to explain anything to me, I didn't matter, he decided. And he behaved like a true asshole. I was emotionally fragile so honestly I hated him.
That's when I learnt everything about lupus and more and I questioned everything. He didn't like it but guess what, we are talking about my body.

I know  lot's of people, friends and even family members that  know close to nothing about the disease that plagues them. I find it extremely important to be in the loop, aware, to be able to question decisions. If you are not part of the decision making who are you giving the responsibility of your life? The doctor only?
Let me say it black on white : stop doing that my friend. It is your body, your life and health. If you are not responsible guess what that makes you ? Yeah, irresponsible.

And I've learnt its necessary to listen to what the body says to you. After all its the body against you here, isn't it? That's like you and against... hmm... you !

What shocked me a lot was someone asking me many years back if I felt my disease creeping on me.My answer was that no, I didn't. You know what that guy told me?  "- I'll be damned, you are thick ! You didn't see it coming? In whose body where you living if not yours?!"
Yea, that statement annoyed me big time. But then months later he added that the body needs to be listened to, and he taught  me to try daily to pay attention to my body, to every single muscle twitch and every  pain. I started  doing that and it took me months and years of exercise but now it is a natural attention process, I know when my body is not at ease and something hurts, I am aware, conscious of my body.

So my two rules of the day :

    • rule one. You need to seriously learn the insides out of the disease that you have now. That means everything you can find about the disease, the treatments, the possible medication, the side effects of medication, the interactions with other diseases and medication, how is safe to be weaned off lupus medication, especially steroids, about blood tests and so on. Don't leave it to others. Don't be in your doctor's office like a Chinese person that doesn't understand an English speaking person. You have to be able to have a two way conversation with  your doctor and  to ask serious questions. In the end its about you and your health.

    • rule two. Pay attention to your body and you will soon notice it has its very own language. Your body tries to speak to you but we are so used not to hear anything else than our repetitive thoughts. Every day you should aim at least for few minutes to pay attention to every muscle and pain and itch in your body. Just feel yourself without wanting to understand what it means. You should try to dedicate few minutes every day on a continuous base. OK, you will forget for few days or weeks, then you will remember the exercise and start again. Its OK. Soon you will notice when something hurts or a muscle twitches, you will feel it immediately. You will be in tune with your body, your best friend. Congrats.

Do NOT stop your medication under any circumstance unless advised by your doctor.

Health is attained step by step. With mindfulness.
